Fueling for Practice, Games, and Everyday Training
6 min readSports nutrition is a well-studied field, and some principles are broadly agreed upon: eating a balanced meal with carbohydrates and protein a few hours before intense activity, staying hydrated throughout, and refueling with carbohydrates and protein afterward to support recovery.
Exact timing and amounts are highly individual and depend on the sport, intensity, duration, body size, and personal tolerance — there is no single meal plan that fits every athlete, and claims that promise a guaranteed performance boost should be treated with skepticism.
For teenage athletes specifically, the priority is usually consistent, adequate overall nutrition to support both athletic performance and normal growth — rather than restrictive eating or supplements, which carry more risk and less established benefit in this age group.
This is general information, not an individualized sports nutrition plan. Athletes with specific performance or medical needs should consult a sports dietitian or physician.
